A Couple of Small Felt Pouches

This week I decided to make a new pouch for my business cards. The one I am using now is getting  a little ratty looking from being in my purse for several years. I didn’t take any in progress photos. I wasn’t really thinking about it, just enjoying the process of making something. This is the first one, front and back and closed. It turned out well but I tiny bit smaller than I wanted.  Not bad considering I didn’t do any measuring I just cut out a resist and started. Here it is on the resist so you can see the shrinkage And a pictures of the nuno felt…

    A felt Christmas Card

I sent a card to my partner for the Christmas card on the forum. holiday-exchange-2017   She has it now so I can tell you all about making it. First I went through my old felt bin to find a thickish piece of felt and cut out a tree shape. It’s a blueish green even if it doesn’t look like it. I then cut out some red prefelt I had for the background. I did 2 layers for each of these. I did the extra on so if this didn’t turn out I could go with plan B.  Then I roughly cut out a tree shape form a silk scarf I…

    Felt Vessel Class

Posted on December 2, 2017 by shepherdessann I taught an enthusiastic group of ladies how to make felted vessels last Sunday. They were a great group and without Carleen’s reminders to take pictures I would have nothing to show you today.           Three ladies chose to make pots that were a different colour inside.  and two made theirs a solid colour. Then of course there was the wetting, rubbing and rolling and shapping     Blowing up a balloon inside  helps get a nice shape. In the back ground you can see Carlene rolling on a car mat. For some reason I did not get a picture…

    Mittens

I am teaching mittens next year at my guild. I haven’t made any in a long time so I have been working on some mittens for my grandson.  Here you can see where I was enlarging the pattern.  They look huge. I did add extra in the middle because it is easer to cut off some at the wrist then not have enough and try to add. Do you like my sheep duct tape? I used a small piece of plastic to keep the thumb wool separate. They can so easily get all tangled with the wool from the finger part. Here is it flipped over and ready for the…

    A Zed Inspired Book Cover

I bought myself a new sketch pad that is in a book form rather then a flip pad. I decided I wanted to cover it in the way that Zed had last shown us here project-updates-2/ I am lazy and wanted to get to the decorating so I started with a piece of white prefelt. I didn’t take a picture of it but you can see it in the picture of attaching the cord farther down. This is the overall piece just wet down. Here is a closer look at the flowers and the little resist I put in for a pocket. I want to be able to put a pencil…

    Second Quarter Challenge Finnished

Posted on July 11, 2017 by shepherdessann My second Quarter challenge is all finished. Better late than never. After fulling the pot the design was almost completely gone. I Got out my handy dandy disposable razor and gave it a good shave to get rid of the fuzzies. The design magically reappeared. A tiny bit of sun came out for the pictures. It has been raining and raining and raining here so not great pictures.   I finished felting the relief picture. The inside yarn didn’t feel a secure as I wanted so I went all around it with a felting needle before deciding how to reveal the encased yarn.…

Working on some felt pictures in the fused glass style

A while ago I saw some fused glass pictures and was inspired to make some summer beach pictures. I like the simple style of this type of picture. I spent a few evenings drawing and colouring pictures. I always forget how relaxing and fun colouring is. I decided to do a seaside picture first as summer has just started. I used I used all prefelt except for a little silk for the waves. I split the prefelt and cut it so it wouldn’t be too thick where they overlap. I tacked everything down lightly with a felting needle. This is how it looked after felting once. I forgot to take one after…

    Felting with friends Weekend- Hats

More on my felting weekend.  We all meat at Maureen’s ( http://www.dreamspinfibres.ca/ ) A great place, she has so much fiber to choose from. Three of us made hats based on a hat in Judit Pocs video. It seems to be gone from the internet. It was mostly about making a rug.  This is Diane and Susan( http://www.suzannetowns.ca/ ) sizing up a template. They made their hats on the first day. They like a really firm hat so their scaled up the template and added more layers than I do. Susan added come great colour  and Dian used some resists to reveal some fabric on the layer underneath. Diane added a string of…

Felting weekend with friends: small bags

Last week end a friend Dianne Lemire and I went down to our friends Maureen Harding’s place for a felters weekend. Another friend Susan came on Friday to felt with us. It is so much fun to spend a week end with other people that love to felt. I wanted to make a new little purse to use at shows. First I did a black one with a nice blue silk inside and a pocket. For the design on the flap I balled up some peices of orange silk and wound them up with thread to keep them in a ball. I used a piece of black prefelt to cover them. …
